The debut of the C-Quotient Campus Series on 26 June 2010 was an afternoon of chilling out with three prominent Singaporeans who have successfully ventured into the China market.
About 180 youths interested to know more about China attended the launch of the C-Quotient Campus Series. Held at 15 mins café, LASALLE College of the Arts, the venue featured a mini museum, showcasing creative displays relating to China.
First guest sharing her expertise on China was Ms Lim Sau Hoong, whose advertising clients include Bank of China and CCTV. Citing her experiences with Chinese clients, Ms Lim revealed, to have a competitive edge in China, Singaporeans must be knowledgeable in Chinese culture and at the same time able to deliver international standards. At the end of her sharing, she encouraged participants with her personal slogan,“ 宠辱不惊、不卑不亢”, which is to remain unfazed despite praises or discouragement.
The humorous Mr Goh Chye Boon captivated the participants with his interesting anecdotes while baring his soul about the initial struggles of venturing into China two years ago. One of the lessons he learnt from venturing into China, is that one should not expect immediate returns. Summarizing his experience with the Chinese, he encouraged participants to experience China for themselves.
The third speaker, Mr Chase Ma, is an entrepreneur in the creative industry, whose work has received positive media attention in China. When interviewed, he said of those intending to venture into China, “Those that take pride in their work and have willing, hardworking attitude were more likely to succeed.”
Besides an individual sharing segment, a panel discussion was also put together to allow interaction between the speakers and the attendees. Also invited to share at the panel was Mr Sam Tan, Parliamentary Secretary for Ministry of Trade & Industry and Ministry of Information, Communications & the Arts, and Board Member of Business China.
This project was undertaken by a group of young Business China members. By encouraging them to take part in the planning and organising of this programme, Business China hopes to generate ownership amongst the youth.
Chen Heng Hui, 24, one of the youths leading this project explained the motivation towards creating the C-Quotient Campus Series, “We realize that many of our peers hold certain misconceptions about China and Chinese culture. Hence through this interactive series, we hope our participants will have a better understanding of China in terms of history, culture and contemporary issues. This also provides a platform for like-minded individuals to share and connect.”
Business China has planned 8 sessions for the C-Quotient Campus Series, each to focus on different theme relating to China. The next two sessions will be held on 9 July at Temasek Polytechnic & 28 July at Ngee Ann Polytechnic.
