Dr Michael Koh, Deputy Principal of Republic Polytechnic;
Ladies and gentlemen.
1. Good afternoon. It gives me great pleasure to be here today to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Business China and Republic Polytechnic.
2. This MOU provides a framework for Republic Polytechnic and Business China to work together to nurture China-ready young Singaporeans. We look forward to working together on the China Business Perspective Programme, joint seminars and overseas immersion trips.
3. China has just released its gross domestic product (GDP) data last Tuesday (17th April) and China’s first quarter growth beats expectations at 6.8 percent. The sustained growth shows the world’s number two economy has remained resilient. China’s influence is also growing in the region.
4. In order to be ready for China’s growing influence in the region and to be able to leverage on opportunities, Business China has been focused on developing programmes and initiatives to create more opportunities for enterprises, individuals and young Singaporeans to gain a greater understanding of China.
5. Today’s collaboration shows Business China’s efforts to partner IHLs such as Republic Polytechnic to develop curriculum suited for the changing needs of the market and ensure that young Singaporeans are Future-Ready and China-ready.
6. There is increasing need to have international skill sets to stay relevant in the global economy. Through the programmes and collaborations under this Memorandum of Understanding, we hope that students will not only learn about economic, social and geo-political developments, but also gain first-hand insights on how to navigate through the challenges of working and doing business in China. For us, we will bring in relevant networks, partners and resources to provide a holistic perspective for young Singaporeans.
7. In closing, I would like to thank Republic Polytechnic again for initiating this collaboration. The MOU that we are signing today marks the second collaboration that we are having with the polytechnics. We are heartened by the pro-active approach, I am delighted to hear the numbers that Dr Koh spoken up and I believe today MOU will take Business China and Republic Polytechnic to a new level of partnership.
8. Thank you.
