Media Statement on Mrs Josephine Teo’s Relinquishment of Business China CEO position

Business China was officially launched on 19 November 2007 by our Patron, Minister Mentor Mr Lee Kuan Yew, and Chinese Premier Mr Wen Jiabao. The mission of Business China is to nurture an inclusive bilingual and bi-cultural group of Singaporeans through extensive use of the Chinese language as the medium of communication, so as to sustain our multi-cultural heritage, and to develop a cultural and economic bridge linking the world and China.

Since our inception, Mrs Josephine Teo is one of our Board of Directors. She was appointed Chief Executive Officer in July 2009. After having served in this capacity for nearly two years, Mrs Teo relinquished this position yesterday. She will be sworn in as Minister of State for Finance & Transport this evening. Mrs Teo will continue to serve in the Board of Director for Business China. She is also a Member of Parliament for Bishan-Toa Payoh Group Representation Constituency.

Business China thanks Mrs Josephine Teo for her contributions towards the organization since its inception in September 2007 and especially so during her tenure as the Chief Executive Officer. Under her leadership, Business China has organized a series of activities to enhance Singaporeans’ capabilities to tap on the boundless opportunities arising from China’s economic development.

In particular, Mrs Teo created the FutureChina Global Forum which brings about an annual congregation of China experts, top government officials and business executives, as well as thought leaders around the world, and helps to provide valuable insights and excellent networking opportunities on China. Mrs Teo also initiated China Learning Journeys for students to deepen their appreciation on China’s development.

Business China also takes this opportunity to congratulate Mrs Josephine Teo on her new appointments. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

Business China will continue to serve the businessmen, professionals, students and the young who are interested to explore the China market. We will create opportunities for them to interact and establish their network, stimulate their interest in learning the Chinese culture and improve their proficiency in Chinese so as to help them succeed in their China’s venture.

Business China has a good team in place that will continue the programmes and plans formulated under the guidance of the Board. Mr Koh Chin Yee, our General Manager, has spent the past nine years working in China holding various key positions in both public and private sectors. Mr Koh graduated with a Second Upper Honours Degree in Chinese Studies from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1994 and subsequently obtained a MBA degree, also from NUS, in 2001.

Business China would like to thank our supporters and assure them that Business China will continue to build on the strong foundation to fulfil our mission.

Mr Chua Thian Poh
Chairman
