The Spring Reception is an annual event for Chinese community leaders in Singapore to gather and exchange well-wishes and aspirations in the New Year. It acts as a platform for SFCCA, SCCC and Business China to promote Chinese values, language and cultural appreciation. More importantly, the event hopes to facilitate interaction between members of different communities, as evidenced by a diverse guest profile this year.

President of SFCCA cum Chairman of SCCC, Mr Chua Thian Poh, highlighted the key work of SCCC since its inception, such as introducing the inaugural Singapore Chinese Cultural Contribution Award and signing a memorandum of understanding with the SPH Chinese Media Group to help grow the Singapore Chinese culture and engage the younger generation. On this note, Mr Chua called for continued support as SFCCA strives to inspire new growth for the Chinese culture through technology and creativity, and engages diverse cultures to strengthen social safeguards.

Chairman of Business China, Mr Lee Yi Shyan, highlighted the importance of learning, reading, researching, discussing and sharing in today’s world. On this note, Business China will continue to focus on sharing experience and knowledge about China’s social-economic landscape with Singaporeans, with the objective to nurture more talents who are both “Singapore- and China-savvy”. As Business China celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, Mr Lee thanked the Chinese business community for their continued support and looked forward to forging more collaborations in the new year.

Finally, the Spring Reception also observed the tradition of exchanging well-wishes to signify unity, solidarity and harmony. Music and dance performances by NUS Chinese Dance Group and multi-ethnic performing group yIN Harmony further added to the festive mood.
