Singapore’s Community Organisations’ Tribute to Lee Kuan Yew
– Eight organisations from the Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasian communities jointly organised a memorial ceremony to pay tribute to Singapore’s founding father, with more than 2,000 guests in attendance.

SINGAPORE, 27 March 2015 – This morning, eight community organisations, namely Yayasan MENDAKI, Association of Muslim Professionals (AMP), Singapore Indian Development Association (SINDA), Eurasian Association, together with Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations (SFCCA), Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI), Chinese Development Assistance Council (CDAC) and Business China, jointly organised a memorial ceremony to pay tribute to Founding Prime Minister Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Mr Lee was a visionary leader who played a pivotal role in strengthening Singapore’s multi-cultural social fabric by spearheading the development of these key community organisations.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his wife, Mdm Ho Ching, attended the memorial ceremony held at Kallang Theatre.

More than 2,000 invited guests were present at the memorial ceremony held at Kallang Theatre, including leaders from Singapore’s public and private sector, the business community, council and board members of the community organisations, representatives from major business and cultural organisations, as well as school teachers and students.

Guests in attendance included Mdm Halimah Yacob, Speaker of Parliament, as well as members of the Cabinet, including Mr Teo Chee Hean, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security and Home Affairs; Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance; Mr Lim Swee Say, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office; Mr S Iswaran, Minister, Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs, Trade and Industry; Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs; Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister for Health; Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Social and Family Development and Second Minister for Defence; and Mr Lawrence Wong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Communications and Information.

The leaders of the four ethnic groups each presented a Letter of Condolence to Prime Minister Lee at the end of the memorial ceremony.
