MEDIA RELEASE: Singapore Federation Of Chinese Clans Association (SFCCA) And Business China: Strengthening Bonds By Leveraging On Cultural Affinity

SINGAPORE FEDERATION OF CHINESE CLANS ASSOCIATION (SFCCA) AND BUSINESS CHINA: STRENGTHENING BONDS BY LEVERAGING ON CULTURAL AFFINITY

Some 450 distinguish guests from Singapore’s Chinese community ushered in the Year of the Snake with slick, swift and youthful vibrance in the Spring Reception 2013 organised by the SFCCA and Business China. This is also the first time President Tony Tan Keng Yam celebrated the Lunar New Year with the Chinese community in the SFCCA and Business China Spring Reception since being elected to Presidency in 2011. Minister Gan Kim Yong, Minister of State Mrs Josephine Teo, Senior Parliamentary Secretary Mr Sam Tan, Senior Parliamentary Secretary Ms Sim Ann, Members of Parliament and other dignitaries also joint in the festivities at this most significant event on the Chinese calendar. Young, zestful dancers and musicians from the Hokkien Huay Kuan Dance Performance Troupe, Dunman High School and Nanyang Girls High School further augmented the festive mood by their creatively choreographed pieces and award-winning performances.

The Spring Reception is an annual event organised by SFCCA and Business China for Chinese community leaders across Singapore to gather and exchange new contacts, new plans and new aspirations for the New Year. Stepping into our third year of collaboration, the Spring Reception represents a common platform for promoting the appreciation of Chinese language, culture and values between the two organisations. Over the years, both organisations had launched a wide range of activities with the common goal of ensuring that ties with the Chinese cultural roots had been forged and fortified, especially amongst the younger generation of Chinese Singaporeans.

It is on this note that SFCCA President and Business China Chairman Mr Chua Thian Poh reiterated the vision for SFCCA to be the nucleus of all Chinese Clan Associations, Civil Societies and Interest Groups. The centre-piece at the heart of future development is the Chinese Cultural Centre. With its location confirmed and construction planning underway, it is slated to be ready for operation in 4 to 5 years. Mr Chua called for support and contribution towards realising the Cultural Centre as the nexus of Chinese culture for generations of future Singaporeans.

Business China, in moving forward, will continue to field new initiatives to engage more stakeholders as well as expand its footprint beyond Singapore. This year, the China-Quotient Forum series is naturally extended to engage school leaders and teachers after addressing students for the past 3 years. The other key initiatives of Advanced Leaders Programme, FutureChina Global Forum, Future China Business Forum and Business China Awards, will continue to be developed in terms of actualising greater value for Singapore, as well as further strengthening Singapore-China relations.
