MEDIA RELEASE: Nominations Now Open for Business China Awards 2017

HONOURING PROMINENT ROLE MODELS IN STRENGTHENING SINGAPORE-CHINA RELATIONS

SINGAPORE, 23 February 2017 – Business China Awards 2017 is now open for nominations from 23 February 2017 to 10 March 2017. The annual Business China Awards (BCA) was incepted in 2010 and aimed at honouring outstanding businessmen, entrepreneurs, professionals and organisations for their successes and contributions to Singapore-China relations. Now into its eighth year, the Awards also aims to promote Singapore with the recognition of these exemplary role models.

The three categories of the Business China Awards are:

  • Business China Excellence Award
  • Business China Enterprise Award
  • Business China Young Achiever Award

Besides being highly successful in their respective domains, the Awards recipients had exhibited sustained efforts and deepened relational initiatives in their engagements with Singapore and China. Their contributions to Singapore-China relations have had far-reaching reverberations in their various spheres of influence.

Past recipients of the Business China Excellence Award since 2010, include Mr Tao Shing Pee, Mr Teo Woon Tiong, the late Professor Arthur Lim Siew Ming, Mr Liang Baohua, Dr Liu Thai Ker, Mr Li Rongrong and Professor Wang Gungwu. Of these, Mr Liang and Mr Li are residents of China who have been strong supporters of collaborations with Singapore and, through their initiatives, have contributed greatly towards bilateral relations.

Past recipients of the Business China Enterprise Award include China- Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, Nanyang Technological University (Mayors’ Class), CapitaLand Group, Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Keppel Corporation and Bank of China.

Past recipients of the Business China Young Achiever Award showcased diverse and inspirational contributions towards the depth and strength of Singapore-China ties. They include Ms Stefanie Sun Yanzi, Ms Han Yong Hong, Dr Loh Cheng, Mr Charles Wong, Mr JJ Lin, Ms Tanya Chua and Ms Jenny Lee.

On the significance of the Awards, Chairman of Business China, Mr Lee Yi Shyan, said: “Business China is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It has always been our mission to develop a cultural and economic bridge linking the world and China. The Business China Awards has been instrumental in recognising role models who make significant contributions to Singapore-China relations. We hope that these exemplary individuals and organisations will continue to inspire our ever-growing friendship and mutual trust.”

Chairman of BCA Organising Committee, Mr Tan Ser Ping, Founder and Managing Partner of Stanway Capital and Board member of Business China, said: “The Business China Awards has come a long way since its inception eight years ago and has grown to be synonymous with excellence; excellence in tireless contribution to the Singapore-China relationship and promotion of China-savviness in Singapore. We would like to encourage the public to nominate candidates who are best representatives of both Singapore- and China-savvy individuals and/or organisations to acknowledge and honour their efforts.”

Nominations are open to Singapore citizens & PR, residents of Greater China, Singapore organisations; as well as China organisations registered in Singapore.

The results of the 2017 Business China Awards will be announced in July during the Awards Presentation Ceremony.
