FutureChina Global Forum 2013:
– An insider’s perspective to the challenges and opportunities of a China situated at an important inflexion point in history
With the conclusion of the “Two Meetings” earlier in March this year, China ushered in the dawn of the much anticipated Xi Jinping-Li Keqiang regime amidst a setting West. The fourth edition of the FutureChina Global Forum held on 8 and 9 July, 2013 at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, was timely to review the impacts of the new policies and reforms implemented in the past three months by the new administration. A slate of more than 70 esteemed speakers from Singapore, China, Asia, the United States and Europe convened at the Forum to assess China’s course under the new leadership, in a total of 19 plenary and panel discussion sessions.
This year, Business China is honoured to have Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam grace the forum on 8 July as the Keynote speaker for the Dinner Dialogue. The illustrious list of speakers further included Liu Changle, Chairman & CEO of Phoenix Satellite Television; Fredrick Chien Fu, Chairman of Cathay Charity Foundation as well as government officials, business leaders, academia, cultural personalities and opinion leaders from around the world. More than 400 senior business executives, community leaders, top experts and global policy makers also gathered at the Forum to exchange perspectives on China’s current hot-button issues and possible future trajectories.
The FutureChina Global Forum 2013, with a comprehensive coverage of topics ranging from political, financial, social, environmental to international relations, will shed light on ways to better engage China and co-create collaborative growth from an insider’s perspective. The two-day Forum kick-started with the opening plenary session which delved into the topic of “Living with single digit growth”. Delegates can expect candid exchanges, stimulating discussions and scintillating insights on topics surrounding China’s latest developments, its key drivers of change and the meaning of the impending changes in both the regional as well as international context.
“For the past 30 years, China has been experiencing unprecedented growth. It is however, now entering a new phase of economic development. As China plans her trajectory at this important inflexion point in history, the world beholds as she precariously navigate through domestic and international woes in a bid to maintain her stellar performance for the next 30 years. Can China do it? What would be possible roadblocks and what would help keep the China economy buoyant? These and many more hot-button issues would be discussed in this year’s forum.” said Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of Business China.
First launched in 2010, the FutureChina Global Forum is the only bilingual Forum that goes beyond the usual discussions to provide an insider’s views on China’s key drivers of change and the implications of these changes to key stakeholders. It offers comprehensive and in-depth analysis of China’s developments in the economic, social, political, cultural and historical paradigms through multi-faceted discussions and plenaries.
