FutureChina Global Forum 2012
– Singapore presents world’s foremost independent bilingual platform for sharing of insights on China’s evolving society and culture
To mark Business China’s fifth anniversary, the FutureChina Global Forum (FCGF) 2012 unveils today featuring insights and analyses from more than 60 esteemed speakers. This is the strongest slate of speakers presented since it was created 2 years ago by Business China. The Forum is held for two days, from 9-10 July at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.
Into its third year, FCGF is the only forum that provides an integrated picture of the ever-changing China from 5 orientations: politics and society, business and economy, science and technology, arts and culture, and global relations. The theme for FCGF 2012 is “Seizing New Opportunities, Managing New Uncertainties”.
Business China is honoured to have Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Tharman Shanmugaratnam grace our event as one of the keynote Speakers at the Opening Plenary session. He will speak about the long term prospects and challenges facing China and its implications for the rest of the world. Accompanying DPM Tharman on the panel are Executive Director, President and CEO of China Merchants Bank, Dr Ma Weihua, Executive Vice-Chairman of China Institute of Innovation and Development Strategy, Ambassador Wu Jianmin and Chairman of Hang Lung Properties Limited, Mr Ronnie Chan.
Chairman and CEO of Innovation Works, Dr Lee Kai-Fu will also be making his first public speech in Singapore during the Forum. He will be speaking at the Dinner Dialogue on 9 July about the impact and influence of IT entrepreneurs in changing China. Dr Lee is one of the most prominent figures in the Chinese internet sector. Prior to establishing Innovation Works, Dr Lee was Vice President, Engineering of Google Inc., and Founding President of its Chinese Operations.
Rounding off the Forum is Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Business China is privileged to have the Prime Minister as the keynote speaker for theClosing Lunch Dialogue on 10 July. This is the very first time that Prime Minister Lee is speaking at this international meeting.
The Forum will also feature many heavyweight speakers who are themselves leaders in their respective fields including Oon Jin Teik (Group Executive Vice President and CEO, China, Hyflux Ltd, Singapore), Ji Qi (Founder of Ctrip.com, Home Inns and Hotels, and China Lodging Group), Douglas Paal (Vice President for Studies, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace), Clyde Prestowitz (President, The Economy Strategy Institute) and many more. The speakers will provide in-depth updates on the latest developments, trends and factors shaping China’s trajectory as well as their implications on global economics.
FutureChina Global Forum 2012 is held at a time when a multitude of unknowns are high on the minds of economic and political decision-makers dealing with China. The vast changes in the global economic and geopolitical landscapes, paralleled by unprecedented transformations in China, create as many new opportunities as they would uncertainties. Much would depend on how China is able to rebalance its economic structure, while sustaining the growth level necessary to ensure social stability.
With preparations well-underway for China’s top leadership change at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese leaders continue to grapple with increasing tensions and populist frustrations generated by the widening wealth distribution gap. How will these issues impact our interactions with China? FutureChina Global Forum 2012 will address these issues through 19 plenary sessions and panel discussions.
“With Singapore and China growing increasingly close-knitted, the total bilateral trade between the two countries increases year after year, coupling with more areas of collaboration. As such, we have added a new session this year themed “The Singapore-China connection: A privileged springboard” to showcase the unique partnership between both countries.” said Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of Business China.
About 400 senior business executives, public personalities, top experts and global thought leaders gathered in Singapore to discuss hot-button issues on China in this 2-day international meeting.
Interviews with speakers and representatives from Business China can be arranged upon request.
