FutureChina Global Forum 2012
– Consolidating Singapore’s position at the forefront of China thought leadership featuring the strongest slate of distinguished speakers ever including Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong
Since 2010, FutureChina Global Forum, organised by Business China, provides an independent platform for renowned thought leaders from all over the world to share their insights on China’s evolving society and culture. Held with great success over the past two years, this influential forum will see more than 50 esteemed speakers discuss topics centered around the theme “Seizing New Opportunities, Managing New Uncertainties” this year. The Forum will be on 9-10 July 2012, at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.
FutureChina Global Forum 2012 will be of a bigger scale this year to mark Business China’s fifth anniversary celebration, with more than 400 senior business executives, public personalities, top experts and global thought leaders expected to gather in Singapore to discuss hot-button topics on China.
Mr Chua Thian Poh, Chairman of Business China said, “Understanding China is now of pertinent importance with the rise of China’s influence on the global stage. In addition, the expected China’s top leadership change will give rise to new opportunities and uncertainties. Singapore provides an independent platform for all to debate on wide-ranging China-centric issues and gain insiders’ knowledge about China. Through this Forum, Business China hopes to help Singapore continue to be at the forefront of China thought leadership. ”
This year, we are honored to have Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Tharman Shanmugaratnam as our distinguished speakers. On 9 July, DPM Tharman will launch the opening of the Forum with his keynote speech at the Opening Plenary session. The grand finale of the Forum will be PM Lee’s keynote speech at the Closing Lunch Dialogue on 10 July.
Other distinguished speakers include Ambassador Wu Jianmin (Executive Vice Chairman of China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy) and Dr Lee Kai-Fu (Chairman and CEO of Innovation Works). Dr Lee is one of the most prominent figures in the Chinese internet sector and was the founding president of Google China, serving from July 2005 through September 4, 2009. This would be Dr Lee’s first public speech in Singapore.
In addition, the Forum will also feature many thought leaders from diverse fields including Professor Tommy Koh (Ambassador-at-Large, Singapore), Oon Jin Teik (Group Executive Vice President and CEO, China, Hyflux Ltd, Singapore), Ji Qi (Founder of Ctrip.com, Home Inns and Hotels, and China Lodging Group), Gao Jifan (Chairman and CEO, Trina Solar), Clyde Prestowitz (President, The Economy Strategy Institute), Christian Murck (President, American Chamber of Commerce in China) and many more. The speakers will provide in-depth updates on the latest developments, trends and factors shaping China’s trajectory as well as their implications on global economics.
FutureChina Global Forum 2012 is held at a time when a multitude of unknowns are high on the minds of economic and political decision-makers dealing with China. The vast changes in the global economic and geopolitical landscapes, paralleled by unprecedented transformations in China, create as many new opportunities as they would uncertainties. Much would depend on how China is able to rebalance its economic structure, while sustaining the growth level necessary to ensure social stability.
With preparations well-underway for China’s top leadership change at the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the Chinese leaders continue to grapple with increasing tensions and populist frustrations generated by the widening wealth distribution gap. How will these issues impact our interactions with China? FutureChina Global Forum 2012 will address these issues through 18 plenary sessions and panel discussions.
