BUSINESS CHINA AWARDS 2014
– CELEBRATING FIVE YEARS OF HONOURING SUCCESSES IN THE ENHANCEMENTS OF SINGAPORE-CHINA TIES

SINGAPORE, 19 March 2014 – The annual Business China Awards, aimed at honouring outstanding businessmen, professionals and enterprises for their successes and contributions in enhancing Singapore-China relations; as well as promoting bilingualism and biculturalism in Singapore, is now in its fifth year.

From now till 21 April, Business China Awards 2014 is open for nominations.

The three categories of the Business China Awards are:

  • Business China Excellence Award
  • Business China Enterprise Award
  • Business China Young Achiever Award

Recipients of last year’s Business China Awards were Mr Liang Baohua, Former Party Secretary of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee (Excellence Award), Lianhe Zaobao (Enterprise Award) and Mr Charles Wong, Chief Executive Officer of CHARLES & KEITH Group (Young Achiever Award). They were presented with the awards by Business China Patron, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 27 November 2013 during the BCA2013 Gala Dinner.

Chairman of the organising committee, Mr Alan Chan, CEO of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) Ltd and Board member of Business China, said: “Since its establishment, the Awards have served as esteemed recognition of the individuals’ and enterprises’ contributions towards Singapore and China’s bilateral relations. We encourage the nomination of candidates who have contributed significantly either to the strengthening of Singapore-China ties, or the promotion of bilingualism and biculturalism in Singapore. Last year, for the first time ever, a recipient from China was conferred this prestigious Award. Building on the foundations of the past five years, we hope to gather more nominations both locally and from overseas this year in a bid to celebrate these deserving candidates.”

Chairman of Business China, Mr Chua Thian Poh emphasised the significance of the Awards: “This year marks the Fifth Anniversary of the Business China Awards, a significant milestone in the history of Business China. Over the past five years, the Awards have become one of our signature annual events. By honouring these successful role models, we hope that more young Singaporeans will be inspired to emulate them, build on their success and also recognise the importance of being both bicultural and bilingual in today’s context.”

OCBC Bank is delighted to return as the co-presenter of the Business China Award for the 5th year running. Mr George Lee, Head of Global Corporate Banking, OCBC Bank, said: “Singapore and China may share many similarities but significant differences in market nuances and business practices remain. However, this has not stopped enterprising Singaporean individuals and businesses from gaining a strong foothold in China. Likewise, many Chinese individuals and businesses have also done exceedingly well in Singapore. Their efforts deserved to be recognised, and OCBC is indeed honoured to have this opportunity to provide a platform to showcase their achievements.”

The two Awards for individuals, Business China Excellence and Young Achiever Awards, will honour those who have best demonstrated exceptional vision and leadership in the development and sustained growth of a business or profession in China or Singapore. For Business China Young Achiever Award, nominees must be below the age of 45.
