2010 marks the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and China. To commemorate this occasion, Singapore Chinese Chamber and Industry (SCCCI) and Business China hosted a lunch for China’s Vice-President Xi Jinping on 15 November. The lunch was also graced by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
An old friend of Singapore, China’s Vice-President Xi reaffirmed the close ties between Singapore and China in his speech. “China-Singapore relations are standing at a new historical starting point.” He encouraged that China and Singapore strengthen cooperation as it contributed to further growth of bilateral relations, to regional harmony and stability and to peace and development of Asia as a whole.
Senior Minister Goh, the special distinguished guest, commented bilateral ties are more than just political and economic. “Singapore aims to remain a close partner in China’s development agenda. We recognise that China’s needs have evolved other time and we hope our companies, together with the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) and Business China, will find new areas to grow the relationship. In so doing, they contribute to the development of Singapore-China relations.”
The lunch was held at The St Regis. Close to 400 guests from the business community, media and civic organisations attended this lunch celebration.
