Following the signing of a three-year Framework Agreement with Bank of China (Singapore Branch) in August 2018, the “Business China-Bank of China Internship Programme” was officially launched on 13 May 2019.
10 outstanding students were selected from the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University and Singapore Management University to participate in the Internship Programme at Bank of China (Singapore Branch) and other institutions of Bank of China Limited.
In her speech, Miss Alice Chan, Director of Business China said that the Internship Programme aims to provide a cultural exchanges platform between Singapore and China for Singaporean youths, to allow them to learn about China’s market and corporate culture through internship in China. This will help to enhance their understanding of China and to cultivate Singapore-China-savvy young talents. Moving forward, Business China will also set up a specialised online portal to publish the list of companies with internship opportunities available in Singapore and China. Singaporean and Chinese youths can use this platform to seek out internship opportunities.
Deputy Country Head of Bank of China (Singapore Branch), Mr Hu Xinquan during his speech remarked that the Internship Programme provides career development opportunities for young Singaporeans and help in talent cultivation for the future economic and cultural development of Singapore and China. He wished all interns a fruitful internship journey, encouraged them to contribute to Singapore’s effort in becoming a Smart Nation as well as to promote friendship and cooperation between Singapore and China.
Business China established the “Business China Internship Programme Fund” in 2018. This will provide financial support for Singapore students pursuing internship opportunities in China, thereby enhancing mutual understanding between Singapore and China and broadening our network of Singapore-China-savvy talents. This initiative garnered strong support from senior leaders and government officials of both countries. During his speech at the 44th Singapore Lecture, co-organised by Business China and ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute, Chinese Premier Mr Li Keqiang underscored his support for youth exchange in the form of internships.
