FutureChina Global Series – The clash of “two Gilded Ages”, a Multicultural Perspective on US-China Relations | Professor Yuen Yuen Ang

Instead of a “clash of civilisations”, the clash of “two Gilded Ages”, where prosperity seems precarious, may be a better characterisation of US and China, shared Professor Yuen Yuen Ang, Alfred Chandler Chair Professor of Political Economy at Johns Hopkins University at the FutureChina Global Series event on 7 January 2025. Both are living through a Gilded Age and struggling to end the excesses of capitalism.

At the closed-door session, Professor Ang also highlighted how multicultural perspectives will be key for the two great powers to be able to see themselves through each other’s eyes, and understand each other more accurately.

The event was attended by Business China Chairman Mr Lee Yi Shyan, CEO Mr Ho Chee Hin, as well as Board Director Mr Robin Hu, amongst other distinguished guests.
