On 9 January, some 40 students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) attended the E3 workshop – a preparatory workshop for their China Immersion Programme – organised by Business China.
Conceptualised with three fundamentals in mind – Excite, Explore and Experience – the E3 workshop aims to excite and better prepare the students before they embark on immersion trips to China, ensuring them a fruitful learning journey.
Kicking off the workshop, the trainer, Ms Emilyn Poh, gave a brief introduction on the diplomatic relations between China and Singapore, so that the students can gain a better understanding of the bilateral ties between these two countries.
This was followed by an interactive session where the students were divided into groups to design a poster reflecting their anticipation and concerns of living and studying in China. The trainer then addressed each of their queries patiently and provided tips on what to look out for such as avoiding trickery, preparing for unforeseen traffic conditions, etc.
In the brief three hours, students reported that they had gained insights on China’s geography, current affairs and contemporary language. It had been an invaluable lesson for them as it prepared them for the upcoming study semester of four and a half months in Wuhan, China.
In Business China’s strive towards grooming bilingual and bicultural Singaporean youths, the E3 workshop which was started in 2009, had trained a total of 2,100 Singaporean youths from schools with integrated programmes, junior colleges, polytechnics and universities. Demand for this informative and interactive workshop which covers social information, real-time experience, historical background and latest trends of China has been steadily increasing in matching the growing interest in China.
