Business China Youth Series – The Vanished Bay: Discovering the Early History of Singapore’s Chinese Community at Telok Ayer | Dr Wu Qi

On 23 Feb 2025, 32 participants embarked on a fascinating cultural journey led by Dr Wu Qi under the Business China Youth Series.

From the Nanyang characteristics of Thian Hock Keng Temple to the cultural fusion of Fuk Tak Chi Museum and the Hakka-style architecture of Ying Fo Fui Kun, every stop deepened our appreciation of history and multiculturalism.

At Thian Hock Keng Temple, we witnessed the perfect blend of Nanyang culture and Chinese traditions. The Door Gods here not only act as guardians of faith but also embodiments of local traditions, reflecting the harmonious blend of diverse cultures.

Fuk Tak Chi Museum took us through the history of Cantonese and Hakka immigrants, telling the stories of pioneers who crossed the seas and built new lives in a foreign land.

Yueh Hai Ching Temple was another highlight of our journey. Its architectural style blends Teochew and Cantonese influences, with exquisite carvings and vibrant paintings that left us in awe.
