On 21st April 2021, Business China successfully organised the 4th Distinguished Leaders Dialogue Series (DLDS) with Minister for Health and Business China Adviser, Mr Gan Kim Yong as guest speaker. Titled “Singapore-China: Emerging Stronger from COVID-19 and Tackling the Challenges of Ageing”, the closed-door dialogue session was first Business China’s event that was conducted in a hybrid format.
The dialogue opened with Business China Chairman Mr Lee Yi Shyan, giving his opening remarks about the COVID-19 situation in Singapore. He then briefly introduced Minister Gan’s illustrious career in the public sector. Mr Lee also shared that Minister Gan had been very supportive of Business China events over the years.
After Mr Lee’s introduction, Minister Gan delivered his keynote address, where he updated the current COVID-19 situation in Singapore and the work done by the multi-ministry task force. He also touched on how Singapore can learn from China, explore, strengthen and transform the silver industry into a positive force in Singapore society.
After Minister Gan’s sharing, the floor was opened for the Q&A session. There was a deep and substantive exchange of opinions between the attendees and Minister Gan as the audience raised pertinent questions on COVID-19 vaccine supply, disease prevention, combating Singapore ageing population and many more. The Q&A session was moderated by Business China CEO Ms Tin Pei Ling.
The one and a half-hour dialogue session saw close to 84 invited attendees which included prominent business leaders, Advanced Leaders Programme (ALP) alumni, BC corporate members and BCYC members.
The inaugural Distinguished Leaders Dialogue Series was held on 10th January 2020, with Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security, Mr Teo Chee Hean as the featured speaker.
