Business China Advanced Leaders Programme Trip to Yangtze River Delta, China

A total of 17 new participants took part in the Advanced Leaders Programme (ALP) trip to Yangtze River Delta (YRD), China from 27 August to 5 September 2023. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, and Manpower, Dr Koh Poh Koon, led the delegation alongside Business China’s representatives.

Business China resumed its Advanced Leaders Programme (ALP) in 2023, after a 3-year hiatus. First launched in 2012, the ALP is an exclusive apex programme targeting C-suite executives, next-generation business leaders, and senior public officials.

Participants had the opportunity to visit a diverse selection of companies spanning several industries. From the cutting-edge automotive sector represented by SAIC Motors and NIO and green energy giants such as GCL, to digitalisation champions represented by Ant Group and Trip.com, as well as bio-technology leaders Innovent Bio and Luye Life Sciences.

Through the visits and engagements with top leaders of these companies, participants learnt about each company’s overall growth strategy in their respective industries, challenges faced, unique selling points, manufacturing techniques, and future plans.

Business China’s Advanced Leaders Programme (ALP) helps business leaders and senior public officers in gaining a better understanding of the latest developments and paradigm shifts in China. Participants were able to witness China’s post-COVID economic landscape up close, allowing for a better understanding of the Chinese economy in the short- and long-term. This upfront experience will be particularly important given the various domestic and international challenges China faces, from weakening domestic consumer sentiments, to rising geopolitical tensions and its resultant export bans and trade tariffs.
