A total of 15 delegates took part in the Advanced Leaders Programme (ALP) Alumni trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from 20 October to 23 October 2022. Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, and Manpower, Dr Koh Poh Koon, led the delegation alongside Business China’s representatives.
The study trip to Vietnam was the first organised for the ALP Alumni members since the inauguration of the programme. The trip was curated to allow members to ‘view’ China through Vietnam’s lenses, and examine the upward trend of China’s foreign direct investment (FDI) into Vietnam in recent years.
Themed “China through Vietnam’s Lenses”, the trip consisted of visits to enterprises in Vietnam such as J&T Express and Huawei. Chinese enterprises such as Hikvision, China Telecom and China Construction Bank also conducted sharing sessions in which they shared insights about the local market from the perspective of Chinese enterprises.
The members also heard from Vietnam Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) and Singapore companies such as Keppel Land and KinderWorld which have been in the Vietnam market for many years.
One of the highlights of the trip was a visit to FPT Software’s office campus, F-Town 3. FPT Software is one of the largest local companies in Vietnam, and members gained insights into the local talent pool through the company tour. They also had opportunities to interact with members of the Singapore Chamber of Commerce Vietnam and China Business Association Ho Chi Minh City Branch, Vietnam through the networking dinners.
Business China’s Advanced Leaders Programme (ALP) helps business leaders and senior public officers to gain a better understanding of the latest developments and paradigm shifts in China. In addition, the programme also includes an ASEAN segment that equips members with relevant knowledge about the ASEAN region.
