Preliminary Concept to Establish
Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre
To further strengthen the bonding between all bodies in the Chinese community, the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Association is exploring the feasibility to establish a Chinese Cultural Centre, as a place for community interactions and activities as well as a platform to encourage and aid the new immigrants to better integrate into the society. The centre will not only promote Chinese arts and culture, traditions and customs, it will also showcase Singapore’s unique multicultural identity. In addition, the centre will host premium cultural performances, exhibitions and activities. SFCCA hopes through these efforts, promoting our local Chinese culture, as well as enhancing the interaction between the different races and ethnicity so as to help Singapore a more gracious, inclusive and harmonious society.
The Chinese Cultural Centre will achieve its above-mentioned objectives through the 4 following areas:
a) Culture: By showcasing the local distinctive Chinese culture through various art forms, including plays, opera, recitals, Chinese martial arts, literature and popular entertainment; through performances, international exchanges, art festivals and more, highlighting our multicultural identity and also integrating the rich culture of the new immigrants to enrich our unique Chinese cultural heritage.
b) Activities: By adopting an open-minded approach for activities organized by the Chinese Clan Associations and the New Immigrants’ Organisations, the centre will become a major activity centre for the Chinese Community. Examples of activities such as networking events, seminars, talks, debates and festive-related event. Local Chinese organizations will also be encouraged to organize avant-garde, innovative activities to attract more youth participation.
c) Exchange: By providing a platform that encourages flexible and creative exchanges, the interaction between the local Chinese Associations and the general public will be further enhanced.
d) Integration: Besides implementing the Chinese-related projects/initiatives, the centre will also be a platform to strengthen the cross-cultural and inter-racial integration. These include encouraging the new Chinese immigrants to better integrate into the society and promoting more inter-racial interactions to make Singapore become a more harmonious and cohesive society.
The Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations hopes this important initiative can be strongly supported by the government and the various communities to bring about an early fruition, as it will definitely make a far-reaching and significant impact to our nation.
