MEDIA RELEASE: Business China Champ of Marketing 2.0 Competition Awards Ceremony cum Business China Student Members Mid-Autumn Festival Gathering

Singapore – Results of the inaugural Business China Champ of Marketing 2.0 competition were released this evening, in conjunction with the Business China Student Members Mid-Autumn Festival Gathering held at *SCAPE @ Orchard.

The Business China Champ of Marketing 2.0 competition was jointly organised by Business China and Omy, a bilingual web portal by Singapore Press Holdings Ltd. This inaugural marketing competition challenges students to release their creativity and concoct the brightest marketing strategies for BreadTalk’s Mid-Autumn Festival campaign in Shanghai, China. The winning team walked away with S$5,000 cash, as well as an exclusive internship opportunity at BreadTalk’s branch in Shanghai.

Held to mark Business China’s fifth anniversary, the competition was officially launched earlier on 7 July by Ms Sim Ann, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Education; Ms Low Yen Ling, CEO of Business China; and Ms Joyce Koh, representative from BreadTalk Group.

The competition aims to motivate our local students to be more attuned to China by exposing them to the business environment in China, as well as letting them have a first-hand experience of the emerging opportunities and challenges in China. The competition was opened for a period of 11 weeks for students who are Singaporean or Permanent Resident, aged between 16 and 26, to whip up a fresh business proposal as well as a TV advertisement.

Announcement of winners was made at the event (Please refer to Annex 1 for the winners list), and winning videos were showcased. Five ‘Lucky Voters’ who had voted online for their favourite TV commercial were also presented with S$100 BreadTalk vouchers each.

This event marked the first-ever Mid-Autumn Festival gathering organised for student members of Business China. Lantern riddles and tea demonstration were just two of the fringe activities of the event to enliven the youths’ understanding of Chinese tradition through fun activities. Participants were also treated to a free movie screening of a Chinese action-comedy, ‘Guns n Roses’ (黄金大劫案).

Since our establishment in 2007, Business China has been striving to nurture an inclusive bilingual and bicultural group of young Singaporeans. To help them develop deeper links with China, this event provides a platform for the youths to learn more about Chinese history and its influence on contemporary Chinese society, and at the same time, occasions for like-minded youths to interact. Through movie screening, lantern riddles and tea demonstration, Business China also encourages the youths to be more appreciative of the Chinese traditional culture.

DJ Kenneth Kong from UFM 100.3 was the emcee of the evening. Seven local bloggers, including Melvin Lee (A Winsome Life) and Irene Octoviani Tan (Rene Memory List), were also invited to the event.

The event was open to all student members of Business China, aged between 13 and 26 and studying in local secondary schools, junior colleges, polytechnics or universities.
