China-Quotient Student Forum 2012
– Business China and Singapore Polytechnic jointly invite SMS Lee Yi Shyan, MTI & MND; and Mr Lim Ming Yan, CEO-Designate of CapitaLand Ltd, to speak on bilingualism and biculturalism amongst the youths
Singapore – On 27 October, Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Senior Minister of State for Trade, Industry and National Development, shared his China experience with more than 500 youths at the China-Quotient Student Forum co-organised by Business China and Singapore Polytechnic (SP).
Guest-of-Honour and keynote speaker, SMS Lee Yi Shyan, deliverd a keynote presentation on “Bilingualism and Biculturalism: Maintaining Singaporean Youths’ Competitive Edge” at the Forum. He later joined Mr Lim Ming Yan, CEO-Designate of CapitaLand Limited, in a panel discussion moderated by Senior Broadcast Journalist from 95.8FM, Ms Lui Fong Ching. Mr Lim is also the Deputy Chairman of CapitaLand China Executive Committee. With effect from 1 January 2013, Mr Lim will helm the CapitaLand Group as President and CEO.
Tertiary students from SP as well as other junior colleges and polytechnics, including National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, benefited from the Forum which saw the two speakers sharing how Singaporean youths could leverage on their unique edge as bilingual and bicultural individuals in an increasingly competitive global market place.
CEO of Business China, Ms Low Yen Ling, also seized this excellent opportunity to further engage and mingle with gen-Y Singaporeans. In her closing address, Ms Low said: “Through the panel discussion today, it is clear that it is only through active learning of Chinese and Mandarin that we will be better attuned to keep pace with China’s developments, and upkeep our ‘China-Quotient’ (CQ).”
The series of China-Quotient (CQ) Student Forums were conceptualised to keep students and youths abreast of the changes in the rapidly morphing China society, to up their China-quotient, so that they can better prepare themselves for the emerging opportunities.
This year as Business China celebrates her fifth anniversary, close to 60 different events will be launched, among which are the CQ Student Forums. The CQ Student Forum held at SP was the third and final run this year.

About C-Quotient Student Forum
This is a half-day forum targeted at pre-university and tertiary students who are interested in China affairs. An initiative of Business China, the Forum aims to motivate them in upkeeping their proficiency in the Chinese language, deepening their understanding of Chinese culture, and keeping pace with contemporary developments in China.
The Forum for 500 participants or more will feature outstanding speakers from areas such as technology, lifestyle, popular culture, volunteerism and social entrepreneurship, which interest the youths. Through these student forums, Business China hopes to encourage as well as better prepare our youths to engage China, whether at work or play.
