SINGAPORE, 09 NOVEMBER 2022 – Business China is pleased to announce that Mr Ho Chee Hin will be appointed CEO of Business China with effect 1 Jan 2023. He takes over from Ms Tin Pei Ling who will relinquish the position on 2 Dec 2022.
After serving as CEO of Business China since May 2018, Ms Tin will be pursuing her interests in the private sector.
Launched in November 2007, Business China’s mission is to nurture an inclusive bilingual and bicultural group of Singaporeans, and to develop a cultural and economic bridge linking the world and China.
Mr Lee Yi Shyan, Chairman of Business China, said: “On behalf of the board, I would like to put on record our appreciation of Ms Tin’s tireless efforts and numerous contributions during her tenure in Business China. During her tenure, Business China’s programs have continued to evolve and adapt, remaining relevant to membership’s needs and changing circumstances. Ms Tin has also been very effective in reaching out to stakeholders of different levels, accomplishing Business China’s mission in the process. The board thanks Ms Tin for her leadership and dedication”.
Apart from strengthening Business China’s existing membership base, Ms Tin built a strong core network of prominent and highly influential business leaders that spans across 24 industries. They offer invaluable insights and extensive industry experience to our members, who include Singaporean youths and Singapore’s next-generation business leaders in China.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Ms Tin led Business China to go digital, with a timely implementation of virtual engagements and events, including the fully-virtual FutureChina Global Forum 2020 as well as the Youth Webinars Series, and together with the Business China team, rallied its members to raise over S$2.7m to support communities impacted by the pandemic.
Ms Tin successfully delivered on all existing programmes such as the Business China Awards and the recently concluded FutureChina Global Forum 2022. Ms Tin also championed for causes to reach out to the next generation of Singapore talent, through digitalisation, social media engagement, expansion of cross-border internship programmes, as well as several new programmes, including the inaugural Singapore Digital Economy Forum this August and the Business China Youth Forum organised by youth leaders.
Under her leadership, Business China has become one of the go-to organisations that Chinese prominent business leaders think of when they wish to participate or contribute more socially in Singapore.
Ms Tin said: “It has been a rewarding and fulfilling journey for me to lead Business China. Building on the good work done by the past CEOs and Board leaders before me, I am privileged to have led the team in achieving new exciting milestones.”
“The challenges, from the geopolitical turmoil to the prolonged pandemic, have shown how important the work of Business China is. As I embrace new opportunities in the private sector, I look forward to serving on the Board and walking alongside Business China in its journey ahead,” she said.
Mr Lee, further added: “Business China would like to welcome Mr Ho Chee Hin onboard. He brings a wealth of experience, having spent a lot of time overseas in various positions promoting trade and industry for Singapore.”
With over 25 years of experience in the public sector, Mr Ho will be joining Business China from the Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), where he currently holds the position of Senior Director for Southeast Asia & Oceania Division and ASEAN Division.
Prior to this, he was the Director of China in MTI and concurrently the Global Markets Executive Director of China in Enterprise Singapore from 2019 to 2021. As Director of China, he was responsible for the overall economic policies and engagements with Greater China and took the lead in cooperation with China on Government-to-government initiatives such as the China-Singapore Free Trade Agreement, the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park, and the eight provincial business councils between Singapore and the respective China provinces.
Over the course of his career with Enterprise Singapore, Mr Ho has also previously spent seven years in Shanghai, covering the China market, and five years in London, covering the Europe market.
Mr Ho said: “It is a great privilege for me to have this opportunity to build on the superb work done by Ms Tin and past CEOs, to further the cause of Business China and the interests of Singapore.”
“Singapore must continue to remain ahead of the curve in this highly volatile world that we currently live in. I think Business China is the perfect platform where we can nurture our next generation of bicultural talents and businesses to strengthen Singapore’s position as the bridge, not only between ourselves and China, but also between China and the world,” said Mr Ho.
