Youth Panel Discussion on the enhanced bilingual policy

Our Youth Panel Discussion on 20 September was a resounding success! Over 110 engaged participants joined us to explore the impact of the enhanced bilingual policy on nurturing Chinese language proficiency among young Singaporeans.

Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of National Development, and Business China Board Director Ms Sim Ann graced the panel discussion. Speakers Mr Sng Chern Wei, Dr Lee Wee Heong, Ms Cindy Ko, along with moderator Mr Wang Yongchang —— shared invaluable perspectives from their fields, highlighting the need for efforts beyond policy reform. The discussion revealed the importance of shifting student attitudes towards fostering genuine interest in learning Chinese.

In her closing remarks, Ms Sim Ann emphasised that Singapore’s bilingual education system has laid a strong Chinese language foundation for many Singaporeans, and should be viewed as a “latent ability” to be tapped on when needed.
