Good afternoon, Ladies and Gentlemen.
- Ladies and Gentlemen, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to attend today’s sharing session. This is the first time that Business China has organised such an event. As a non-profit organisation in Singapore, Business China aims to nurture Singaporean bilingual and bicultural talents and enterprises who can engage deeply in economic opportunities with China.
- With more and more international businesses from a China background setting up their regional and international headquarters in Singapore, there are increasing employment and engagement opportunities between Singaporean and foreign management and employees of these businesses.
- These international businesses are important Stakeholders of Business China, and many of you in the crowd here today are also Partners of Business China, providing opportunities for Singaporean youth and talent. As such, Business China has worked with the National Integration Council for today’s event to do a sharing on the opportunities and resources available to promote greater integration at the workplace.
- Our theme for today is “Strengthening Integration at the Workplace”. International businesses in Singapore today typically have talent pools that are a blend of local and international staff who must collaborate effectively for success.
- Singapore, long recognised for its open economy, is a multiracial and multicultural society that thrives on diverse cultural influences and ideas. This diversity serves as a competitive advantage, where businesses benefit greatly when employees from varied backgrounds collaborate effectively. Inclusive workplaces not only engage employees more deeply, but also cultivate innovative, high-performance teams adept at problem-solving and value creation. Such environments excel in attracting and retaining talent, fostering higher productivity.
- As our workforce continues to diversify, managing teams becomes increasingly complex. With different experiences and ideas also come diverse communication styles, work approaches and norms, posing challenges in team management and integration, requiring additional effort and resources to address them effectively.
- In light of such challenges, I want to take the opportunity to urge businesses to further enhance workplace integration. Today’s session will feature a sharing by NIC, a networking session as well as sharings by the following NIC partners: NextPlay, DBS, Institute of Policy Studies and OnePeople.sg on Workplace Integration Programmes and Resources.
- The key areas that will be covered include Cultural Awareness, Singapore Immersion Programme, Crossing Cultural Bridges Programme, Workplace Diversity Programme as well as ways you can make your workplaces more inclusive. I believe these sharings and resources will be beneficial to you in enhancing workplace integration.
- Before I end, I would like to thank everyone once again for making time to attend this event. I hereby call on all parties present to continue the effort in building inclusive workplaces and promoting better integration amongst employees. Let me now conclude my speech in Chinese.
