Senior Minister of State for Health, Business China Board Director; and Chairman of FutureChina Committee, Dr Koh Poh Koon said, “The FutureChina Global Forum (FCGF) 2020 is more exciting and refreshing despite Covid-19. Rising to the challenge, FCGF 2020 is to be a special virtual forum, a platform connecting the East and West, sharing perspectives on issues that facilitate mutual understanding. The COVID19 pandemic has profoundly impacted on global supply chains and economy. Countries and companies are looking to diversify their supply chains and shift operations to ASEAN, where there is increasing economic integration and a rising young and middle-class population. At the same time, as the pandemic tests the economic and political resilience around the world, China has shown an impressive recovery and a stronger resolve to reform and transform. I therefore look forward to the FCGF 2020 exploring how companies can navigate the challenges and capitalise on the opportunities from China and ASEAN, through Singapore’s lens.”
Covid-19 speeds up the transformation of FCGF 2020, bringing neutral China-ASEAN perspectives and global insights to the increasingly complicated hot button issues. First time going virtual, the FCGF 2020 (Special Virtual Edition), boasts a strong line-up of webinars, thematic roundtable discussions, with more than 20 virtual exhibits from regional companies and exclusive networking sessions; presented on a refreshing 360-degree virtual platform promising an immersive experience.
Opportunities presented during new normal
Covid-19 has brought along fundamental challenges and changes to the global world order, economic supply chain and globalisation. Regionalism, economic stress and geopolitical shifts test the resilience of the current global trade and supply chain system, forcing companies to transform and rethink their current operation in order to navigate in this new world order and turn this new normal into business opportunities.
FCGF 2020 sees sharing by esteemed speakers comprising government officials, leading experts and thought-leaders, distinguished business leaders, founders and senior management of renowned firms, of whom include H.E. Dith Tina, Secretary of State, Ministry of Mines and Energy of Cambodia; and Randall S. Kroszner, Former Governor, Federal Reserve System; Norman R. Bobins Professor of Economics, and Deputy Dean for Executive Programs, The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. They will provide exclusive insights to China and ASEAN’s present and future development; steer through challenges and identify new opportunities through collaborations, understand how technology drives the next leg of growth towards the new economic future as well as accentuate the strategic role of Singapore to venture into the ASEAN region.
In line with Business China’s vision to help Singaporeans develop deeper links with China, Business China will be partnering the Young SEAkers and the Student Association of Belt and Road Initiatives at Tsinghua University to organise the Youth Forum. The purposeful sharing sessions by relevant thought-leaders and interactive discussions with fellow youths brings about inspiring benefits for the young working professionals and university students, by understanding the latest issues from different perspectives and explore international business opportunities in this “New normal”. It is also imperative to cultivate and prepare youths, by engaging and bringing them together, so that existing ties can be fostered.
Chairman of Business China, Mr Lee Yi Shyan shared, “Last year this time, we were looking at an uncertain world besieged with trade tensions and a threatened world order. Nothing however looms larger than the current public health and economic crisis we are facing. Will our economy survive this crisis? When will international travel resume? Will there be permanent and structural change to our business and industry sectors? Will the economic integration between ASEAN and China be hastened because of Covid-19 and a bifurcated world? I hope FCGF 2020 will help us see clearer the future before us.”
Business China has been evolving and staying relevant to the development of Singapore and the world, by supporting and reinforcing Singapore’s role as a key node that connects China, ASEAN and the world. Business China continues to serve as an integrator and catalyst, constantly reinventing programmes and platform to bring in values and network to the business community, partners and members in Singapore, China and ASEAN.
