Business China Participates in the Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee Meeting

Business China Chairman Mr Lee Yi Shyan attended the 20th Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee (SSTIC) meeting and also exchanged views on the comprehensive cooperation between Singapore and Sichuan during the bilateral meeting with the government officials and business representatives.

The 20th SSTIC meeting was held on 4 September at the Shangri-La Hotel.

In the opening address, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Ng Chee Meng stated that many Singaporean companies regard Sichuan as an important investment destination in western China. Sichuan will further strengthen the transportation and logistics ecosystems development, which will eventually promote trade between Sichuan and Southeast Asia.

Sichuan Vice-Governor Li Yunze and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Ng Chee Meng celebrated the 20th Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee Meeting by cutting a cake together.

The theme of the meeting was "Enterprise Innovation, co-creating opportunities", Singapore and Sichuan will continue exploring opportunities closely in three aspects; firstly on innovation and entrepreneurship, secondly on internationalisation of Chinese companies and lastly on the strengthening and deepening of bilateral cooperation. Chairman Lee also interacted with various industry leaders, council representatives and guest speakers.

During the closing remarks, Sichuan Vice-Governor Li Yunze stated that the total bilateral investment amount in the first half of 2019 increased by 122.9% as compared to 2018. Many renowned enterprises from Singapore and Sichuan had invested in both sides. The Singapore Innovation Centre located in Chengdu is expected to formally start operations in November 2019 and has since attracted up to 200 enterprises.
