Business China collaborates with Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA) for the first time to share insights on AI and the Future of the Media Tech Industry

The Business China X IMDA Tech dialogue, a first-time collaboration between Business China and the Info-communications Media Development Authority (IMDA), was held at PIXEL @ One North on 18 September 2019.

Themed “AI and the future of media tech industry”, the evening event was graced by Dr Janil Puthucheary, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Communications and Information & Ministry of Transport. The session aimed to create a platform for renowned Chinese tech founders to share their insights with local business leaders and the latest trends and developments in technology. The guest speaker was, Mr David Li, Chairman and founder of YY and Huya.

CEO of Business China, Ms Tin Pei Ling shared in her welcome address the importance of AI in our daily lives. “The use of AI radically transforms the way we connect with and view the world - impacting everything from content creation to the consumer experience. AI enhances the predictive capabilities of the channels, allowing media tech companies to supply personalised contents to new levels never seen before,” she said.

The dialogue was moderated by Mr Henry Yin, News Presenter from CNA. Both SMS Janil and Mr David Li exchanged candid views and had stimulating discussions on topics surrounding the latest tech developments in the region. David touched on his companies’ use of AI in curating content for the audience in live-streaming and emphasised the importance of talent development. SMS Janil shared his views on how Singapore’s future AI landscape would look like and some of the government initiatives which support AI for industries as well as Singapore’s talent development strategies.

During the Q&A session, the audience actively asked questions regarding the development of AI. In their closing remarks, both SMS Janil and David expressed optimism for the future of AI in improving the industry.

Approximately 60 guests from the media and entertainment industry, technology companies as well as government officials attended the session.
