Joint edition of SBF and Business China forums this year

15 Aug 2018

TWO major business forums have been combined for the first time in conjunction with the Asean Economic Ministers Meeting later this month, with over 70 speakers providing insights on regional hot topics such as United States-China trade tensions.

The FutureChina Global Forum and Singapore Regional Business Forum will be held on Aug 27 and 28, with more than 600 political and business representatives from Singapore, China, Asean and the region expected to attend.

This year's special edition brings together two annual flagship events: Business China's FutureChina Global Forum and the Singapore Business Federation's (SBF) Singapore Regional Business Forum.

Plenary sessions will cover topics such as challenges and opportunities for Asean 2030; China's growth model; the US commitment to Asean; and US-China trade tensions.

Forum highlights include a keynote speech by guest-of-honour Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean, as well as a dialogue with Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing on connectivity, and one with Minister for Education Ong Ye Kung on innovation and enterprise in the age of disruption.

From China, Chongqing mayor Tang Liangzhi, vice governor of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region Ding Xiangqun and vice governor of Gansu Province Zhang Shizhen will be addressing the forum.

There will also be a dedicated outreach session on the morning of Aug 28, focusing on the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative-Southern Transport Corridor, held together with MTI, Enterprise Singapore and China's Ministry of Commerce.

At the forum, Business China will also launch the FutureChina Regional Belt and Road Executive Programme, with details to be released then, Business China chairman Lee Yi Shyan told the media on Tuesday.

The combined forum is held in conjunction with the Asean Economic Ministers Meeting, to be held here from Aug 29 in line with Singapore's chairmanship of Asean this year.

With the theme 'Laying the Basis for Future Prosperity and Innovation', the forum will feature a dedicated Asean track for its panel discussions this year, alongside tracks on innovation, and the Belt and Road Initiative.
